Shaun

Shaun Hardy retired in 2023 after serving 34 years as Broad Branch Road campus librarian and unofficial archivist and historian of EPL. He currently pursues research on the history of science and assists with special projects in the EPL Archives.

Hardy was honored with the Carnegie Institution’s Service to Science Award in 2012 and the Geoscience Information Society's Distinguished Service Award in 2016. He holds degrees in geological sciences and physics from the University of Rochester and library and information studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

100 Years Ago DTM Chased the Eclipse That Made Einstein Famous
Louis Bauer, DTM’s founding Director, was an eclipse veteran. In May 1900, four years before the Department was established, Bauer organized the first systematic observations aimed at detecting geomagnetic effects of a solar eclipse.
