Shaun Hardy Wins the Geoscience Information Society's 2014 Best Paper Award

EPL's esteemed librarian, Shaun Hardy, received the Geoscience Information Society’s 2014 Best Paper Award at their annual meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, on 21 October 2014.   

Since 1986, the Geoscience Information Society (GSIS), an information exchange facilitator amongst scientists, librarians, editors, cartographers, educators, and information professionals, presented the Best Paper Award to recognize the best paper published in the field of geoscience information the previous year.

This year, Hardy won the award for his article, “Open access publishing in the geosciences: Case study of the Deep Carbon Observatory,” published in the Geoscience Information Society Proceedings, Volume 43, pages 73-81. 

“This concise, well-written article was selected for having broad significance in improving our understanding of open access publishing in the geosciences, current attitudes among researchers about open access, and the roles geoscience librarians can play in helping increase awareness of open access options,” said Nancy Sprague, Chair of the Best Paper Award Committee at GSIS.

"The excellence of our staff is not restricted to the scientific staff alone, but extends throughout our campus," said DTM's acting director, Rick Carlson. "In this case, to Shaun Hardy who deserves our congratulations both for this achievement and his contribution to making our library the best it can be."
