Washington, DC—The DC STEM Network invites local science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) professionals to join 350 experts from national organizations devoted to STEM education, policy, and industry at its summit on November 5 at Gallaudet University.
The Network is a collaboration between the Carnegie Academy for Science Education (CASE), the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and the Battelle Memorial Institute. The group's mission is to unite community partners in a sustainable collective effort to design, guide, and advocate for transformative STEM learning opportunities for all DC students.
During the summit, STEM City: Capital for the Future, the Network will present its findings from studies conducted since the group’s launch in February of STEM education opportunities for DC students.
"We want to provide a space to foster collaboration and learning from both local and national experts," said Julie Edmonds, Director of CASE and the DC STEM Network. "We are excited to bring so many stakeholders from different sectors together to create new opportunities for building our city's STEM capacity."
The event will include sessions on showcasing the contributions of the partner institutions, dissecting the elements of successful STEM pathways, and highlighting how to build STEM channels that extend from pre-kindergarten to professional careers. It will also include hands-on STEM education experiences and a keynote address from Harry Wingo, President of the DC Chamber of Commerce.
