Mingxuan Chi is a PhD student in Zheng Lab, focusing on the study of germline development in soft coral Xenia sp. His study focuses on understanding Xenia's oogenesis and spermatogenesis at molecular and cellular levels, which is fundamental to developing genetic tools for this model organism. By mapping the developmental trajectory of gametogenesis, his work provides the critical insights needed to manipulate Xenia at the genetic level. As Xenia is a valuable model for studying endosymbiosis and produces bioactive terpenes, these genetic tools could enhance both endosymbiosis research and drug discovery studies.
