Katy Cain is a Communications Specialist at Carnegie Science, where she turns complex research into compelling stories, digital campaigns, and well-designed web experiences. Her work blends science writing, web design, and visual storytelling to connect audiences with the discoveries shaping our world. She’s also AI-curious and always exploring how new tools can enhance science communication.
Before joining Carnegie, she worked with Rock Creek Conservancy, the National Park Service, the Center for Open Science, and the Smithsonian. She holds an M.S. in Biological Photography and Imaging from the University of Nottingham and a B.S. in Biology with a Studio Art minor. She also earned a certificate in science communication from UC San Diego Extension.
Though she now lives in Washington, D.C., Katy is originally from Roanoke, Virginia—and she firmly believes the Appalachian Mountains are the best mountains. She’s always ready with a salamander fact and enjoys hiking, nature photography, knitting, and long walks with her corgi.
