Program Overview:

Carnegie Science is committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists and connecting our research with local communities. We invite all Carnegie employees to propose outreach projects that bring our discoveries into the communities where we work.

Empowering employees to share science with the community

The Carnegie Academy for Science Education (CASE) Mini-Grants provide funding for Carnegie employees to engage with their local communities including through schools, libraries, museums, and other community organizations and venues.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available to cover materials, presentation supplies, and other programmatic needs. This mini-grant continues the legacy of the Carnegie Academy for Science Education, which was originally established to give Washington, D.C., students opportunities to experience authentic scientific research, just as our scientists do around the world.

What kinds of projects are eligible?

Projects can range from single events to year-long programs and may serve schools, libraries, museums, or any other community organization or venue. All activities must be completed by June 30th (the end of our fiscal year). Grant funds can only be used for education and outreach expenses directly related to your project.

The key criteria for approval are simple:

  • Does your project advance Carnegie's education and outreach mission?
  • Will it have a clear, positive impact on the community?

When we receive multiple strong proposals, we aim to distribute grants evenly across our campuses.

How to apply

Submit a one-page proposal and budget to Scientific Development & Support Lead Chris Frazier. Your proposal should describe:

  • What you plan to do
  • How it impacts your local community
  • How you'll measure success

Please note any other funding you're applying for or have already secured, both internal and external.

After your project

Within 90 days of completing your project, send us a brief reflection describing what you accomplished and what impact it had. This helps us understand how the program is working and share your success with others.
