After a traditional research-oriented PhD and post-doc in plant sciences, Mary spent 14 years as a professor at Harvey Mudd, a small liberal arts college. During this time she developed many inquiry-based activities for undergraduate and pre-college plant science education, and became increasingly interested in the role of the internet in facilitating communication about plant science. Since 2009 she has been the author and editor of the Teaching Tools in Plant Biology feature of The Plant Cell, published by the American Society of Plant Biologists. This lecture will address how post-docs and other early career researchers can enhance their careers and support plant sciences through a myriad of mentoring and communicating opportunities.
