Suzy Vitale operates Carnegie's new, state-of-the-art FEI Helios PFIB G4, and the Zeiss Auriga SEM. Suzy's expertise is in TEM sample preparation, particularly in powder/particle materials, and also has a strong background in 3D imaging and analysis, high-resolution imaging, EBSD, and qualitative EDS. Suzy trains and mentors new and visiting users and collaborates with staff and postdocs on research projects.
Additionally, she, along with Electron Microprobe Lab Manager Emma Bullock, provides leadership to maintain and manage the smooth operation of the Electron Microscopy Suite. Before joining the Geophysical Laboratory, Suzy ran the FIB/SEM lab at Sandia National Laboratories, a materials characterization laboratory. There, she imaged, FIB'ed, and characterized a wide variety of materials, including polymers, ceramics, metals, metal alloys, composites, and metal-organic frameworks.
