Zhou Liang is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Zakem lab. He earned his PhD in Chemical Oceanography from the Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science at Florida State University in 2024. He is particularly interested in nutrients, organic matter and their interactions with marine microbes. His doctoral research integrated both lab and modeling work to understand how dissolved organic nutrients support ocean productivity on a global scale. He measured concentrations and isotopic compositions of dissolved organic nutrients in the lab, led the construction of a global database, and developed data-driven inverse models to leverage these observations to map the distributions of dissolved organic nutrients in the ocean and quantify their contribution to ocean productivity.
