Qiwei is interested in the petrology and mineralogy of Earth’s mantle, focusing on lithosphere formation and metasomatism (e.g., processes driven by subduction and mantle plumes) that modify its physical properties. As a postdoctoral fellow, he will collaborate with Steve Shirey to investigate the geochemistry of mantle-derived samples (xenoliths, diamonds), integrating these studies with geophysical observations and coupled thermodynamic–geodynamical modeling. This research aims to provide key insights into the recycling timescales of life-essential elements, the origin of deep-source magmas, and the geochemical and geophysical heterogeneity of the deep mantle.
