Washington, D.C.—Ann McElwain, Dartmouth College’s Executive Director of Leadership Giving, will become the new Chief Development Officer at Carnegie Science in Washington, D.C., starting July 1, 2016.
McElwain brings a rich portfolio with 17 years of experience to Carnegie, including her highly successful fundraising, marketing, and management experience. She has been involved in three capital campaigns, strategic planning, donor relations, alumni relations, volunteer and board management, corporate/foundation relations, staff recruiting and development, and much more.
At Dartmouth, McElwain joined the advancement team at a time of transition. She prepared her Leadership Giving Team for a new campaign and established new performance metrics. She built out the Greater New York, West Coast, and Central States teams, oversaw an extensive portfolio review and executed president and senior leadership donor events and one-on-one prospect meetings, among other duties.
Before Dartmouth, she served eight years at the University of Florida as Assistant Vice President of Development, overseeing development strategy for the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, and the colleges of engineering, business, law, liberal arts and sciences, and education, as well as the South Florida Regional office.
“We could not be more pleased that Ann has agreed to join the Carnegie team,” remarked Carnegie President Matthew Scott. “Her fundraising successes, new initiatives, and management style at every stage of her career are a perfect match for Carnegie as we embark on a new chapter of expanded connections to the public, and fundraising. She has also demonstrated terrific ability to grasp the unique aspects of Carnegie Science, its enormously successful history of discovery, and its great prospects for the future.”
Before her tenure at the University of Florida, McElwain worked in development for a children’s center and was Director of Marketing and Development at the Family Center of Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Her undergraduate degree is in economics and she has an MBA.
