Little is known about the mechanisms controlling plant immunity against vascular pathogens. My group focuses on the interaction between the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris and Brassicaceae such as cabbages and Arabidopsis. Xanthomonas type III effectors are essential pathogenicity determinants which are injected in plant cells to subvert their immunity and physiology. I will first present recent results on the discovery of a large TAL effector repertoire and its evolution. In the second part of the presentation, I will focus on the way these bacteria enter leaves via hydathodes to reach the xylem tissue and the molecular mechanisms conferring immunity against infection by those Xanthomonas.
