Ireri

Sally Ireri is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Mengyi Cao's lab at Carnegie Science, Division of Biosphere Sciences & Engineering. Sally completed her PhD in Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Riverside where she studied the piRNA pathway response to viral infections in the yellow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti. Sally is interested in host-microbe interactions and is currently working on (1). developing CRISPR-Cas9 based genetic tools in the agriculturally beneficial nematode Steinernema feltiae,  and (2). Investigate the role of nematode heme transporter hrg-1 in the interactions between Steinernema nematode and its Xenorhabdus symbiotic bacteria. In her spare time, Sally enjoys reading science-fiction and fantasy and hiking.
