Eshita
Banerjee
Eshita Banerjee studies the vast halos of gas that surround galaxies, using the light of distant quasars as a backlight to reveal how that gas fuels or starves star formation in galaxies from when the universe was less than 2 billion years old. She earned her PhD in astronomy from the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) in Pune, India, after degrees in physics from IIT Kharagpur and the University of Calcutta, and joins the Carnegie Observatories as a postdoctoral fellow working with Gwen Rudie.
