I had on my rubber boots, a pr. of white pants, a heavy woolen blue shirt, my overcoat + So'wester. When we got to the L.H. I took off my wet clothes + put on my black suit. Nothing but coat, trousers + rubber boots, and in my big overcoat.  I lay down + tried to sleep. Not much sleep. The Galilee continued to settle till at high water next morning the [unintelligible] on the port side were completely underwater. The next morning at daylight we went aboard on lines + got a few more things off.

Saved all the instruments but two or three (and these have been recovered today + cleaned up.) Had to get into my room thro' the window. Nothing was wet in it but it was an awful looking sight in that cabin floor on such a slant that no foothold could be obtained at all and half under water. Mr. Peters + Capt. Hayes finally came out at about 7 o'clock. Did not have much to say. Anytime during the previous day they could have brought a couple of tugs out and saved us easily. We went ashore and had some breakfast. I had no socks, no collar, no cuffs.
