The coolness + bravery displayed by both sailors + scientist was exceptional. A couple of sailors got excited + began to cut the boats loose so as to get them ready for launching when we were about to run stern foremast into the Light-house. Of course, it was an anxious + exciting time, but it is all over now.  I will tell you all about it when I see you again. I can say I have been ship-wrecked anyway.  Dear little girl I wish I could see you tonight.  I feel just kind a' lonely.  I wonder if you are thinking that the time is rather long.  I know I am. I would give a good deal to just put my arms around you + kiss your sweet face + draw you close, sooo close. I wouldn't ever let you go again. Dear Mamie. I love you so + since I can't see you, I am doing things for you. I won't tell you what all I am buying for you but you will find out sooner or later. I won't have a cent left in a day or two. But nothing is too good for the girl I love and who loves me.  Ah.  That is the best part. God bless you Darling. Goodnight.
Your own loving Percy"
