CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL INFECTIOUS DISEASES DISCUSSED BY TOP U.S. AND EUROPEAN EXPERTS IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC, October 28, 2005 – From Monday, October 31 through Thursday, November 3, Washington is host to a series of conferences staged by the Norwegian Embassy. The conference on Climate, Oceans, and Policy on Tuesday, in cooperation with the Carnegie Institution, includes addresses by Dr. Jim Connaughton, Chairman, White House Council on Environmental Quality; Congressman Sam Farr; Congressman Jay Inslee and Dr. James R. Mahoney, Assistant Secretary, NOAA Deputy Administrator. Sudden climate change and the special challenges of the polar regions are addressed in two sessions. The conference on Global Infectious Diseases, Water and Health, also on Tuesday, November 1, includes an address by Dr. Rita Colwell, former director of the National Science Foundation (NSF).
