Washington, DC Ronald Cohen of Carnegie’s Geophysical Laboratory will receive the 2009 Dana Medal of the Mineralogical Society of America. The announcement was made today at the Geological Society of America meeting in Denver. The Dana Medal "is intended to recognize continued outstanding scientific contributions through original research in the mineralogical sciences by an individual in the midst of their career.”

The Mineralogical Society of America Dana Medal was established in 1998 and named in honor of the legendary contributions by James Dwight Dana (1813-1895) and Edward Salisbury Dana(1849-1935) to the science of mineralogy. For more information see http://www.minsocam.org/MSA/Awards/Dana.html.
