Annual Giving

Current use gifts are used to fund specific programs or research and to underwrite needs as they occur. Unrestricted gifts (such as the Annual Fund or the President’s Leadership Fund) give Carnegie the flexibility to direct funding quickly to operational priorities.

Each year several hundred friends and former employees of the Carnegie Institution make unrestricted gifts to provide general support for the Institution. These gifts greatly enhance scientific research, staff resources, and our administration. Although our highest priority is the Annual Fund, gifts may be designated to projects or departments.

Andrew Carnegie believed in investing in the individual scientist, and that investment has shown tremendous return over the years. Carnegie’s Annual Fund allows all of us to share Andrew Carnegie’s philosophy and to support current day researchers whose results may well be as transformative as those of the Carnegie scientists who preceded them.
