Dear Little Girl.

Another Sunday morning and we are still here. We expect to sail this afternoon at 2 o'clock.  We have been delayed a little by trouble with our crew. The old crew had to be fired in more ways than one. There were fired from the ship and when they got drunk and came back hunting trouble, the mate fired on them with a Winchester. Shot one of them thro' the leg. We are hoping that it will not delay our departure this P.M.  We will have to go without our mate as his "hearing" is set for next Thurs.

I was very glad to get Grace's letter and very, very glad that you are able to sit up a little bit. I wish it were not so hot there. I want my little girl to get well. I wish we could go to some summer resort together. Wouldn't that be fine. I wish I could come and help your Mama and Grace. I would like to be your nurse for awhile. I used to be a pretty good nurse. Don't you think I could nurse you pretty well. I would like to try. Dear Mamie, I wish I could see you now.
