"Mar. 4, 1916

Dear Mamie:

Well, we have been almost to 60º S. again.  Saw only one iceberg since Jan. 28. Were headed off from making 60 by a head wind. Did not matter, as we only lacked 30 miles. Have found chart errors as high as 16º twice as large as the largest they found in 1911 in the Indian Ocean. So we feel that we have pioneered on this trip.  We are headed up toward Australia now. Everything is going fine. Getting Declin. every day.   Have missed only one day so far since Lyttelton.
